School Curriculum
Students in SNS are not limited to the prescribed curriculum of Saudi Arabian schools (Arabic language, Islamic education, Maths, Science, Social Studies etc.) but are taught other subjects such as English, French, maths and science in English, computer sciences, special physical education activities (Karate, Tae Kwon Do). They are also provided with opportunities for swimming and horse riding.
The school timetable comprises eight periods of instruction for all sections, i.e.;Intermediate and Secondary.
Use of Current Educational Trends
The school applies current educational trends in developing the teaching/learning process in the classroom, based on Arabic and International resources obtained from different sources.
Some of these trends focus on educational planning at different levels: annual, term, week and daily basis. Computer programs especially prepared to cater for the Arabic curriculum requirements and other evaluation materials are used. The preparation of worksheets and handouts to enrich the curriculum and the development of testing materials for each level of all subject areas is an ongoing process.
Supplementary Subjects
Over and above the teaching of the Arabic curriculum prescribed by the Saudi Ministry of Education, the school provides the following supplementary subjects:
English Language
The school provides English language to students at all levels, in addition to the prescribed curriculum for Intermediate and Secondary (English for Saudi Arabia). English lessons are taught by specialist Arab and native speaking staff.
French Language
The school introduces French to all classes from in grade 1 to grade 9. For the lower Elementary, there are two periods per week and for grades 4 and above, one period per week.
Computer Studies
The school gives special emphasis to computer studies by providing organised instruction to all classes. As the school has developed and due to the increase in student population, the new buildings comprise new facilities including: 28 computer laboratories and computers in each classroom. In all there are there are around 1000 Compaq type computers in the school served by 40 network printers.
Mathematics and Science in
English
All classes are given one period per week of both mathematics and science in English, the materials for which are specially prepared by the school. These materials are based on the Arabic curriculum and are aimed at providing each child with the necessary vocabulary and skills to be able to solve mathematical and scientific problems in the medium of English.
Horse riding
The school provides horse riding on some Thursdays during the school year for students electing this as a voluntary option. This is provided in a special location owned and maintained by the Saad Group of Companies.
Swimming
Swimming instruction is given to all the boys in the school within the weekly plan, whereby the students are taught this important skill under the supervision of qualified instructors.
Karate and Tae Kwon Do
The Physical Education department in the school train students in the skills of Karate and Tae Kwon Do as planned in the weekly timetable.
Activity Period and Visits
The weekly plan provides students with the opportunity to join clubs and societies, which address subjects outside the regular curriculum. This helps them to express their talents and interests in artistic and cultural activities and movements such as the scouts. Visits are arranged to local places of interest for the students at various times throughout the year.
